HOLY COW! ALUMNI DEFEAT UNDERGRADS IN SOFTBALL;
SWEEP THE 98-99 LCA ATHLETICS SEASON

SHEPHERSTOWN-Once again the alumni athletic machine proved to be too much for the undergraduates, this time on the softball field. The alumni defeated the undergraduates 15-12 and 18-14 at Morgan's Grove Park on April 10, 1999. This completes the perfect season for the alumni brothers by defeating the undergraduates in Football (November), Basketball (March), and Softball (April).

Dave White and Jason Sweeney proved to be regular "Mr. Octobers", providing brilliant defensive play in the infield, along with swinging the lumber for a near flawless 18-20 combined hits/at bats combination. Also present was Whit Townsend, Shawn Cain, Jason Cadle, Jay Hessler, Mark Kistoulis, Gefforey Clopton, Bill Blake, Greg Hefflebower, and Karl Wolfe. Managing the team this year were Mike Wilkes, John Cushwa and undergraduate representative Jerry Bentavigna.

Turnout overall was about the same as basketball, with about a total of 40 or so brothers present. The undergrads report that all of the associates are doing well, and Rx is scheduled for April 30 and May 1, 1999. See everyone at golf in June.

UNDERGRADS LOSE AGAIN, ALUMNI ANTICIPATE SWEEP IN APRIL

March 6, 1999

SHEPERDSTOWN- The alumni members of the Phi Iota Zeta of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity at Shepherd College defeated the undergraduate chapter in the annual basketball game held at the Butcher Center on campus. The competition lasted close to three hours, with a final score of five games to one in favor of the alumni brothers. This is the second victory in as many competitions for the alumni brothers. After a crushing defeat in football back in November, the undergrads never seemed to recover emotionally from that loss, and it showed on this Saturday in their sloppy, lethargic play and unorganized offensive and defensive plans.

Next on the schedule for the two teams is Softball, which will be held at Morgan's Grove Park on April 10, 1999 at 11:00. Many alumni are predicting a clean sweep of the undergrads for the academic year, due to the renewed interest in alumni events and overall improvement in health for some alumni (agreed... I noticed a distinct decrease in the number of knee braces worn this year. -Phil). The combined total of participants was over 50 members and associate members. Some highlights included the return of alumni brother Neil Troppman from a career-threatening knee injury he suffered close to a year ago, along with news from the undergrads that they have accepted 10 men for association for the Spring semester.

Alumni hand undergrads crushing defeat in Alumni Football

Just wanted to let people know how the game went on Sat. over in Sheptown.

The Alumni won by the score of 56 to 21. Jim Turner, showing skill on both sides of the ball, was named MVP of the game with 3 touchdowns and anchoring the defensive unit as a lineman.

Alumni team members included: Jim, Pete Cocci, Iggy, Bill Baker, Jay Hessler, Jason Cadle, Shawn Cain, Dave Smith, Needle, Whit townsend, and Jason Sweeney.

Also in attendance was Bill Blake, John Cushwa, and Tom DeWees, but they suck at sports so they didn't play. Neil Troppman has a bum knee, so he was the referee (we had him in our backpocket anyway.)

After the game we went to Tony's and had lunch and drank a little, then a few select hardcore fraternity guys went to the track in Charlestown and lost some cash on the video slots. Jim Turner ended up winning this title as well, losing close to $70 and still going at it when I left.

Some shit was talked to the undergrads reguarding basketball, so hope to see everyone there.

ZAX,
